What The World Gets Wrong About The IDF: A Response To Ryan McBeth

Ryan McBeth's recent Gaza AAR is an excellent, good-faith analysis from a Western military perspective. But it's also a perfect case study in how that perspective can misinterpret what the IDF's mindset actually feels like on the ground.

In this in-depth critique, I use my perspective as an IDF Major with first hand knowledge, to deconstruct these misunderstandings. We cover:

Strategy: Why the "Raids" strategy and the shifting Operational Tempo (OpTempo) were not necessarily "flaws," but deliberate choices for a complex, multi-objective battlefield.

Force Structure: The NCO "problem". I explain why the IDF's structure is a different, and necessary, adaptation—not a weaker version of the NATO model.

Mindset: How seemingly "unprofessional" actions, like using WhatsApp for comms or accepting civilian food donations, are actually a symptom of a core strength of the IDF's adaptive culture.

The Information War: Why "winning" the media war isn't always the primary goal when you're fighting for your actual survival.

This is a deep dive into the real, on-the-ground mindset of the IDF: Zeh ma she'yesh, v'im zeh n'natze'ach. "That is what we have, and with that we will win."
