Located in the Northeast Calgary of Saddle Ridge, near the community borders with Martindale and Taradale; Saddletowne Station is located in the central hub of this area of the city known as 'Saddletowne'. This area is known for it's ethnic diversity, especially with it's high Punjabi and Hindi populations.

Saddletowne Station was opened in 2012 as apart of an extension of the Eastern Blue Line, in which Martindale Station was also opened apart of this extension. The two stations were opened as they were heavily needed with the very high ridership and bus routes that serviced McKnight - Westwinds Station at the time. Saddletowne Station currently serves the highest amount of bus routes of any station in the city, with the 23 - 52 Street East, 100 - Airport, and MAX Orange being the most notable bus routes servicing the station.

There is an additional station planned to open sometime within the coming years past Saddletowne Station, that being '88 Avenue NE Station' - however the station's name could very likely change. This station could very likely open as the next station on the network, however the Green Line project complicates this. 88 Avenue NE Station is set to open before any of the other Eastern Blue Line Stations due to it's connection to the Calgary International Airport.

During this Calgary Stampede there is a common joke or meme not to take the Saddletowne Train drunkenly, as it will take you to Saddletowne rather than the Calgary Saddledome.
