Here we have ‘The Epic of Gilgamesh’, an epic poem from Ancient Mesopotamia about the King of Uruk. It has been preserved on clay tablets that are up to four thousand years old, making it much older than even the works of Homer.The poem tells the adventures of Gilgamesh and his companion, a wild man named Enkidu. It also details Gilgamesh's journey to the farthest reaches of the earth in his search for the Babylonian equivalent of Noah and the secret to eternal life. While the epic explores various themes such as family ties, friendship, and the responsibilities of a king, its main focus is on humanity's unending battle with the fear of death.

This is the Folio Society edition, second printing in 2011, of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Translated with an introduction by Andrew George and with illustrations by Francis Mosley.

The book is bound in buckram blocked in a design by the artist. It’s Smyth-sewn in a somewhat tight binding. The paper is Abbey Wove paper, acid-free, pH-neutral. It’s a cream coloured and thick paper. The text-size is medium. The book is printed and bound in the UK.
