Homeschool Curriculum Review: Saxon Math

-my personal recommendation regarding Saxon Math

**At fourth grade, Saxon does something a bit unique and labels their books with two grades. “5/4” represents an early 5th grade level, advanced 4th grade level. “6/5” represents an early 6th grade, advanced 5th grade level, and so on throughout middle school. 5/4 is the next level after 3rd grade.

**Once the student reaches 8th grade, Mom and Dad have to evaluate the student’s progress: do they seem to have a mastery of the previous year’s material or was their introduction to pre-algebra a struggle? If it was a struggle, their 8th grade year can be spent reviewing and solidifying concepts through the Saxon 1/2 curriculum. If pre-algebra was understood fairly easily, they can skip 1/2 and move onto Algebra 1.
