This was my first time spending a night in Peanmeanach bothy on the Ardnish peninsula, a private, not-for-profit bothy at the end of one of the most beautiful walks I’ve ever done 🥾
It’s about three and a half miles of rugged path from the road, but it felt more remote than that. The area has a fascinating history of abandoned settlements and it feels a little post-apocalyptic.
After arriving and settling in, I headed straight back out along the coast to look for a cave I’d read about in another ruined village about an hour’s walk away. I was keen to find it before the early Scottish sunset. It turned out to be an interesting cave with a deep passageway at the back of it, but I was too nervous to venture far.
The bothy was quaint, full of interesting details including an original spinning wheel, arts and crafts, and lots of rusty saws. And spiders. Which made me sleep on the concrete floor in the living room rather than upstairs🕷️ 🫣 😂
Unfortunately I didn’t sleep much, but stepping outside during the night to see the stars and the deer surrounding the bothy more than made up for feeling like a zombie in the morning 🧟♀️🤭
Unfortunately the walk back turned into a soaking, and I’d mistakenly taken my old boots, and one of them leaked badly, so by the time I reached the car I was cold, wet, and pretty exhausted. Instead of another night out, I headed for a warm hotel on Skye. Great bargains to be had in mid-Feb! 🤗
I did say I was here for a good time, not a hard time 😉
