Filmed on 16/07/2024. So, we are back out and about onto the tracks. With a unique day for visit two of Scotland seven cites. One of which is home to the famous War Bear statue which can be found along Princess Street, Edinburgh and for its vast of bus and tram fleet.
Starting the journey at Scarborough we catch the 05:48 Transpennine Express service through to York. This service at the time was capped between Scarborough and York due to route upgrade works near the Dewsbury area. At York, we catch the 07:13 Transpennine Express Nova 1 service to Newcastle. This is the only Transpennine Express Nova 1 service to start between York and Newcastle. A very comfortable and quiet ride through to Newcastle. At Newcastle, we had just over an hour to wait before we caught the 09:21 Transpennine Express Nova 1 service to Edinburgh. Whilst waiting for this service, we were concerned as there was over running engineering works at Morpeth. Fortunately, this quickly cleared up.
At Edinburgh Waverley, we managed to sign in with thanks to the friendly ScotRail staff which we had a grand hour. A good variety of LNER, ScotRail, Transpennine Express and Avanti West Coast variety in action. One of the oldest by ScotRail is the ironic and still going strong the ScotRail Inter7City sets linking to the major ScotRail cities. Its heard ScotRail are extending their HST sets to 5 carriages now.
Next, we then caught the 13:15 ScotRail Express pairing class 385's through to the second city and one of two stations, Glasgow Queen Street. However, due to staff shortages for ScotRail, the evening services were severely impacted. A decent hour of good units and variety in action and more ScotRail HST sets in action linking between Aberdeen and Inverness. Its safe to say it is class 385 Central at Glasgow Queen Street. Then, we made our way to Glasgow Central for the third and final station of the day.
Glasgow Central and these units haven't been missed out are the class 380 Desiro units which are working in place for the withdrawn class 314's that ScotRail used to own. Whilst the weather has been decent, warm and sunny in Scotland, inland towards North West England, there was been some major issues. In terms of severe weather which resulted in trains either running heavily delayed or even cancelled. Such as Transpennine Express and Avanti West Coast which had to terminate their services between Carlisle and Preston due to flooding.
We then make our way back to Glasgow Queen Street, the staff shortages for ScotRail started to severely impact the evening services. Our plan was to catch the 17:15 ScotRail Express service to Edinburgh Waverley had been cancelled. Instead, we caught the 17:45 ScotRail Express service through to Edinburgh Waverley. A very busy service as it had to take on two train loads. At Edinburgh Waverley, we walked along Princess Street to see if we could find Wojtek The War Bear which we manged to find it.

Finally and our journey home, we caught the 19:39 LNER Azuma service through to York which this service ran to London Kings Cross. Surprisingly, we had a table seat all to ourselves for the journey to York. But, even though Coach H is known as a quiet coach, there were inconsiderate passengers on board the train blaring out loud music. The guard asked them to keep the volume down but they ignored the guard. Its a message, please be considerate for others on board the train. Luckily, they left the train at Newcastle and had a quieter run through to York. At York, we then changed for the 23:05 Transpennine Express service through to Scarborough. Quite surprisingly, the guard left the doors unlocked so passengers could board the train straight away.
