Описание: After having tons of fun with my Alchemist Noise Box, I reached out to Tetsuo for a custom box with more melodic elements. I didn't make it an easy one, because I was thinking of two short guitar strings with tuners and a wide case that would support a stereo output. I received the box approx. two weeks ago and couldn't wait to make a video with it.

However, I also wanted to add an educational element. It's fun to listen to a bunch of weird sounds, but I had to put some effort in finding the best way to record it. My Scarlett 18i8 is doing fine in most cases, but back at Abbey Road Institute we NEVER recorded any mic without a dedicated (vintage) pre-amp. Sure, Abbey owns the best amps ever made (classic Neve 1073), which are all over the best albums ever made. While at school I wanted something similar, but more affordable so I got a Warm Audio WA273-EQ which is considered a faithful Neve clone.

It's often said that a modern audio interface, like the Scarlett, doesn't need a pre-amp. As a matter of fact, Focusrite was also founded by mr. Rupert Neve, which raises some expectations. But there's no 1073 in there, because it needs two big transformers and all kinds of analog stuff. It's true, you don't need a pre-amp with the Scarlett, because it's doing a great job. But it's also missing tons of little details which become audible with the WA273-EQ. Worth it? Not if you drown your recording with distortion, EQ, compression and effects. But definitely worth it if you use real acoustic instruments in your work that need to be captured in fine detail. Obviously you'd also need a really good mic and you probably know all this.

On the other end of the spectrum I used my old Roland VT-3 vocoder which I always found too cheesy to use it (as intended) in a production. But it pairs amazingly well with the Box and you don't need to worry about fine details. Cheesy is fun. Since this is also an 'inside the studio' video, I'll add it to my Studio Tour playlist.
