On today's Prime Time, Ravish Kumar speaks to farmers of Mandola in Ghaziabad whose lands were acquired in the late 90s for a housing project by the Uttar Pradesh government. The farmers say that they had received assurances from politicians prior to being elected to power; but later they were left in the lurch with no effort made to solve their problems. Over 2,000 acres of land in Mandola and nearby villages were acquired by the UP Housing Board in 1998 and the farmers were paid compensation at the rate of Rs 1100 per square metre. However, the farmers allege that according to the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, they should be entitled to much more compensation than what they got. (Audio in Hindi)
