This video shows how we put a net in the water ("set" a net). The name of our type of gill-netting is called "set gill-netting" or "set netting" because our nets are "set" in a fixed in a location, as opposed to drifting in the current (which is another type of gill-netting, called "drifting" which is not permitted by law where we fish).
Ella(13) and Clara(9) were Trevor's crew for this set. Brandt(12) was flying the drone. The video shows all the mechanics of what we do. This was a very calm day, and the tide was nearly slack, making this set very easy. Normally the tidal current is moving much faster, sweeping the net upstream and it is a race to get the boat to shore and the end of the net tied-off before the current pulls the net out of our hands.
