[TYPO: in the score, the third chord from the end should be D↓ - F#↓ - A↓ - D↓ instead of D - F# - A - D]. We present the quartertone diminished falling fifths bass line C - Gb↓ - B - F↓ - Bb - E↓ - A - Eb↓ - Ab - D↓ - G - C, harmonised by 12-edo triads.
This bass line is analogous to the customary falling fifths sequence, but features fifths which are diminished by a quartertone. The breaking point of this chord progression is at the end of the sequence (bass moving down a fifth towards the tonic, instead of a diminished fifth); this is different from the customary falling fifths sequence C - F - Bb - Eb - Ab - D - G - C, which features a breaking tritone between the 5th and 6th steps of 8.
Featured timbres: harpsichord, organ, fortepiano, piano.
