I've added speed (miles per hour here) to the dashboard of my home grown D3D12 C++ car simulator. All vids are looking the same lately so I changed the time of day to dusk and fiddled a bit with atmospheric conditions for this one. This shows off how the in-car shadows and lighting do not affect the dashboard which is essentially emissive light.
Also added full chain dynamic mipmapping to the render textures for the dashboard, mirrors, and cockpit TV display which keeps things looking nice and clean regardless of how close or far way you are from those render textures. The textures are rendered, then a compute shader creates the mipmaps on the fly every frame so when they're rendering onto the 3D objects in the player camera, they'll interpolate between high and low res versions of the textures properly.
The dashboard display is blue instead of black because of incorrect SRGB/linear space handling in the physically based rendering (PBR) system. There's a slight blue tint to it which blows up similar to a gamma or inverse gamma correction. I know why and will sort it out, but figured I'd share anyway because it still looks kind of cool even though it's wrong!
