Beyonce, Rihanna welcomes Wizkid and Davido to the "sold out" gang

The O2 has hosted some of the biggest music stars in the world, and selling out the arena is a feat that is a worthy addition to portfolios. But beyond selling out, some acts have sold out in record-breaking times.

Grammy award-winning Nigerian artist Wizkid also fondly called star boy is the latest artist in the world to sell out the 02 Arena in a new record-breaking time of  2 minutes for his Made in Lagos Tour.
This tour is to promote his latest album
‘Made In Lagos’; a 14-track album that features fellow Grammy Award winner Burnaboy, Terms, reggae artist, Damian Marley amongst others.

He sold out the first date further tour which is on the 28th of November in less than 15 minutes, the 2nd date which is the 29th of November sold out in 2 minutes.
Wizkid announced this in a post on his Twitter page.

His tweet read: “SOLD OUT! In two Minutes.
UK Love, you Love Love You, 1st December we go again! AMA Jaiye.”
After so much demand, he added a third date, and surprisingly it sold out in 35 minutes. Wizkid gave the update in a tweet, he wrote: ” 35 minutes!!! SOLD OUT

This is not the first time Wizkid is selling out the 02 as he also did with his “Starboy Fest” in October of 2019, becoming the first African artiste to do so.

2. Popular Nigerian musician, David Adeleke is popularly known as Davido is the second African artist who has been able to sell out 02 Arena in London. He achieved this feat in 2019 with his Davidoat02 concert.

He is now the 2nd Nigerian artist to sell out 02 Arena after his fellow Nigerian artist, Wizkid did.


Davido had not only sold out the O2 Arena, but he had also left his mark at the historic British venue, attracting Edward Enninful, editor of British Vogue, and supermodel, Naomi Campbell who came to support the Nigerian Afropop star.

One of the highlights of the show was the moment he brought up his girlfriend Chioma and sang Assurance, the song he dedicated to her, his girlfriend.

Davido has joined the likes of Drake, Rihanna, Kanye West, Adele, Celine Dione, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake on the list of international artists who had sold out the UK venue as headliners.
has put in a lot of work to ensure that Nigerian music is recognized on the global stage.



Rihanna, 2011: 10 minutes
The list is definitely not complete with the Barbadian singer, Bad girl RiRi.
She sold out the 02 Arena in 2011  during her Loud Tour concert in support of her fifth studio album Loud which was released in 2010.

The concert will mean the Rihanna has performed to over 170,000 fans at the venue.

Rihanna has been presented with a specially commissioned framed award to recognize her achievement.

Sally Davies, The O2, Events Director, said:  "To put Rihanna’s achievement into perspective, no other female artist has played more nights at The O2 as part of the same tour.

"We have hosted some of the biggest female names in modern music, including Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, and Madonna, who have all performed on our stage to sell-out crowds."

Rihanna's performance at the O2 Arena will also mark the final show of her 98-date 'Loud' tour, which has taken the singer across North America, South America, and Europe.


Beyoncé, 2014: 12 minutes
If there is a celebrity in the world that fans are desperate for a chance to see Queen B in the flesh.

Queen B made The O2 Arena her most visited venue of any single tour when she performed there 12 times on her insanely good The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in 2014. 

Beyonce‘s UK tour sold out 12 minutes after going on sale at 9:30am on February 23rd, 2013.

Many Beyoncé die-hard fans even bought the tickets on pre-sale leaving few tickets for the general sales.  The General sale tickets for Beyoncé's‘ The Mrs. Carter Show' tour,  sold out faster than her fans expected.

Ticketmaster's  website crashed as a result as  thousands of fans bombarded the website  Shortly after going on sale, Ticketmaster UK posted:
We’re really sorry, demand was massive and we’ve sold out of our allocation. @Beyonce is the most popular solo artist in the world!

Meanwhile, some people who had bought the tickets resold them on eBay for 500 pounds and more. 

Davido

Davido became the second Nigerian artist to sell out the o2 Arena on the 27th of January 2019. He made the announcement shortly before the show began.

He was introduced on stage by Idris Elba who was at the show with fellow UK big names Naomi Campbell and Tim Westwood. Other performances of the night came from; Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Dremo, Idowest, and Yonda, Zlatan, and Victor AD.
