International Guest Faculty for the Robotic Surgeons Council of India (RSC) December, 2018 meeting, Quoc-Dien Trinh, MD is a Urological Surgeon and Co-Director of the Prostate Cancer Program at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, Boston. Dr. Trinh presented results of his study: 'Racial differences in cancer care- differences or disparities?' to the RSC audience.
" Most of you know race is quite a contentious issue in the United States," Dr. Trinh tells his Indian colleagues, "...in the world of Medicine, race is also a big issue."
He demonstrates the differences in cancer survivability for different cancers and races, where some are connected to genetics, but some cancers are not.
One issue Americans face- which may also pertain to Indians- is that many do not seek treatment, due to the high cost of medical care, especially for the un- or under- insured. Trinh believes that access to care must be improved.
