The city of Fort Collins, Colorado, operates two wastewater treatment facilities: the 23 million gallons per day Drake Water Reclamation Facility and the 6 million gallons per day Mulberry Water Reclamation Facility. The Drake facility is the main plant, and it was struggling to meet new, lower phosphorus discharge limits set by the state.
To address this challenge, the city installed a Magprex phosphorus removal system. This system treats wastewater before it enters the digesters, preventing phosphorus from being released back into the environment. The Magprex system has been highly successful, reducing phosphorus levels by 95% and allowing the city to meet the new regulations.
Benefits of the Magprex system:
Reduced phosphorus discharge: The system removes 95% of phosphorus from wastewater, significantly improving water quality.
Regulatory compliance: The system allows Fort Collins to meet the state's lower phosphorus discharge limits.
Environmental protection: Reduced phosphorus discharge helps protect waterways and ecosystems from harmful algal blooms.
Cost-effective: The Magprex system is a cost-effective solution for phosphorus removal.
