These neighborhoods are commonly called the Montes because they begin with "Monte:" Montes de Amé, Montebello and Altabrisa. They're popular with many locals and foreigners in Merida because of the larger homes, the newer construction and the plentiful shopping and dining options. While Centro is super charming and definitely has its appeal, living in the north of Merida is great option for families or people looking for a little more bang for their buck.
