In a significant diplomatic and logistical achievement, Indian-flagged VLGC “Shivalik” arrived at Mundra Port on March 16 carrying approximately 40,000 metric tonnes of LPG, enough to fill nearly 28 lakh domestic cylinders across the country.

This development comes at a critical moment when global oil and gas supply has been disrupted in the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions involving Iran in the Middle East. The arrival of this shipment is being seen as a major relief for India during the ongoing LPG supply concerns.

Reports indicate that two Indian-flagged LPG vessels have been granted safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian authorities.

Earlier, on March 13, the Ministry of Ports shared an update regarding the maritime situation and the steps being taken to ensure the safety of Indian vessels operating in the region. According to the Ministry, 24 Indian-flagged vessels with 668 Indian seafarers are currently operating in the Persian Gulf.
