The U.S. Department of the Interior, through the U.S. Geological Survey, released the draft 2025 List of Critical Minerals, and silver is one of the minerals which was recommended to be included in the list. This could have major implications on the price of the white metal. After five long years in which it has been in a physical deficit, the looming shortage in silver is about to be officially recognized by the Federal Government. In order to insure the availability of this important industrial resource, it may decide to stockpile it, just as it stockpiles crude oil and gold. But even if that won't happen, the addition of silver to the critical mineral list may raise the attention of investors, and lead to a dramatic increase in investment demand.
