Bl. Herman the Cripple (25 September): The Author of the Salve Regina

Описание: Today’s reflection highlights two remarkable figures in the Catholic tradition:

✨ Saint Albert of Jerusalem – Patriarch of the Holy Land in the early 13th century and author of the Primitive Rule of the Carmelites, which guided the order for centuries until the reforms of St. Teresa of Avila.

✨ Blessed Herman of Reichenau (“the Cripple”) – Born in 1013 with severe disabilities including cleft palate, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida, yet he became a monk, scholar, historian, scientist, and poet. Despite his suffering, he composed lasting hymns still sung today, including “Alma Redemptoris Mater” and the beloved “Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen)”.

His life is a powerful testimony to the value of every human life, the love shown through the Church, and the transformative power of God’s grace. His story challenges modern society’s rejection of the weak, reminding us of the Christian call to cherish every soul as made in the image of God.
