In which I describe why I prefer to NOT use Smartwater bottles while hiking and backpacking, even though I advocate for packing light on the trail. In addition, I go through some lightweight, but not quite ultralight, alternatives that I prefer to use. I also neglected to mention in the video one of the big reasons that I don't use Smartwater bottles: I don't like their disposable nature. I prefer to use a bottle that is durable and will last awhile rather than creating even more plastic waste. Now I haven't done the complete life cycle analysis of Smartwater bottles vs. a UVPE Nalgene, but I would think the Nalgene has a lower impact than multiple Smartwater bottles over, say, 5 years.
