We all have the potential to make changes at ULHT, which is why we are introducing Shared Decision Making – a way to empower teams to make changes and improvements which focus on patient safety or the experience of staff and patients.
Shared Decision Making looks to make the most of the ideas you have. It involves creating a staff council made up of staff members from different roles and with varying experience. The staff council will come together to focus on projects, no matter how big or small, that are meaningful to them.
Shared decision making (also known as shared governance) model is used in other NHS Trusts and it supports staff to discuss change ideas and take ownership of making improvements in their local area. Council members will receive training to undertake their roles, will have the opportunity to develop and learn new skills whilst gaining a better understanding of the organisation as a whole and increased confidence to make changes.
