This project in Italy aims to create a comprehensive understanding of cetacean life, including population sizes, social structures, habitat use, and acoustic behavior. You’ll assist in evaluating the effects of local fisheries and vessel traffic on the ecosystem, while also contributing to public education and scientific publications.

As a volunteer, you'll work closely with the research team, learning and applying methods to collect and analyze data. Daily tasks include spotting marine life, filming with GoPro cameras, recording bioacoustics, photographing for identification, and steering the boat. You’ll also help with cooking and cleaning duties aboard. Evenings are spent reviewing footage or analyzing data, and onshore days offer lectures and data entry opportunities.

🔎 Volunteer Activities Include:

Spotting dolphins, whales, and other marine life.
Filming underwater behavior with GoPro cameras.
Recording bioacoustics through underwater microphones.
Photographing animals for research and identification.
Steering and assisting with boat operations.
