The intended outcome of this project is to provide basic equine health care to
underserved populations on the Navajo and Hopi Nations while simultaneously
providing education and support to horse owners.
• An additional objective is to provide veterinary students hands on veterinary
clinical experience.
• Our intended outcome is to provide veterinary service to as many equine
patients as possible.
• Provide a zoonotic barrier between horse and horse owner through
vaccination against Rabies and West Nile Virus.
The opportunities are:
1. To provide equine veterinary services and education to students and owners
in an immense, underserved region. Services include castrations, dentals,
hoof trims, vaccinations, deworming & other minor surgery cases.
2. To educate horse owners, veterinary students, Native American College
students, Vet Tech students , trade school students and high school students.
3. To empower and recruit Native American students to pursue careers in
veterinary medicine.
4. To assist in restoring rangeland severely damaged by equine overgrazing by
unchecked equine reproduction.
5. To create an immunological barrier to the zoonotic Rabies and West Nile
Virus.
The plan is to create an ongoing organizational structure to continue to meet the
five goals previously stated.
1. Provide equine services (rotating sites on the Navajo & Hopi Nations) on
this vast, underserved area.
2. Educate.
3. Empower and recruit Native American youth to a veterinary career.
4. Assist in restoring rangeland by managing reproduction.
5. Protect humans from Rabies and West Nile viruses.
