Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin intensified his protest against the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise by burning a copy of the bill and hoisting a black flag, launching a statewide agitation across Tamil Nadu.

He opposed The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, which proposes changes to the composition of the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Stalin called for statewide resistance, urging people to hoist black flags at their homes and alleging that the move threatens federalism and state rights.

The protest gained momentum across South India, with black flag demonstrations reported in Chennai and participation from leaders like Kamal Haasan and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. In Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also called the bill unjust and demanded that women’s reservation be implemented without linking it to delimitation.

The Centre’s proposal to increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 850 and link women’s reservation to constitutional amendments has triggered strong political opposition, with concerns raised over timing and federal structure.
