Winter Tree Identification #2 – Those with Opposite Branching

Описание: This video, the second in our Winter Tree Identification Series, focuses on recognizing the trees found in the Eastern United States that have opposite branching. We go through the mnemonics “MAD Buck”, standing for Maples, Ashes, Dogwoods, and Buckeyes, and “A MAD Cap BUCKing HORSE” to help you remember which families of trees have opposite branching. Then we go through each of the species found in those families so that you can identify them confidently. We even give you some tricks to remember some of what you learned. Species covered include Cherry-leaved Viburnum (Viburnum prunifolium), Box Elder (Acer negundo), Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum), Red Maple (Acer rubrum), Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum), Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica), White Ash (Fraxinus americana), Blue Ash (Fraxinus quadragulata), Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida), Amur Honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii), Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra), and Yellow Buckeye (Aesculus flava). Along the way we discuss the impact of Emerald Ash Borer on our country's ash population.
