Spain train collision: 39 dead, dozens injured after high-speed trains crash near Cordoba

Описание: A devastating train collision in southern Spain has claimed the lives of at least 39 people, with dozens more injured, according to Spanish police. The tragic accident occurred Sunday afternoon near Adamuz, around 20 kilometres from the city of Cordoba, involving two high-speed trains travelling on busy intercity routes.

Officials said a Malaga–Madrid high-speed train, carrying 317 passengers, derailed under circumstances yet to be determined, crossed onto the opposite track and collided head-on with a Madrid–Huelva train. Emergency services confirmed that more than 70 people were injured, with Spain’s Transport Minister Oscar Puente stating that around 30 passengers remain in serious condition and are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

Rescue operations continued through the night, involving the civil guard, civil defence teams, and Spain’s Military Emergency Unit. The Spanish Red Cross established a help centre in Adamuz to support survivors and assist relatives of the victims. Rail infrastructure operator Adif opened information centres at major railway stations and activated a dedicated helpline.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and members of the royal family expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families. Rail services on the affected routes have been suspended until at least Tuesday, while authorities warned that the death toll could rise as rescue efforts continue.
