Yamuna River Flood Surge
The Yamuna river has reached its highest level since 1963, posing a serious flood risk to Noida’s low-lying floodplain areas.
This surge was triggered by the release of excess water from the Hathnikund Barrage, leading to flooding across several parts of Noida and Greater Noida.
Authorities evacuated nearly 600 families and 1,500 livestock from affected regions. In total, over 20,000 residents were relocated, with around 2,500 people housed in relief camps.
Floodwaters also submerged more than 5,000 unauthorized farmhouses, particularly in Sector 167, where water rose 5–7 feet, devastating farmland and destroying thousands of bighas of crops.
Relief and Rescue Operations
Rescue work was led by the district administration with support from NDRF and SDRF teams, ensuring the safe evacuation of people and animals.
The administration established temporary shelters, community kitchens, medical facilities, clean drinking water, toilets, and food supplies for displaced families.
Dedicated flood control rooms (such as helpline 0120-2978231) were activated to coordinate relief efforts.
Additionally, six rapid response units and an anti-snake venom team were stationed in flood-hit areas to tackle emergencies.
Areas Impacted
The worst-hit zones include Sectors 135, 150, 151, 167, along with adjoining floodplain villages.
The Hindon river (locally known as Harnandi) also overflowed, further aggravating the situation by submerging farmlands, residential colonies, and nearby settlements.
