Hari Naam Kirtan | Jagannath Temple New Delhi
The Jagannath Mandir in Hauz Khas, New Delhi, is a revered spiritual and cultural landmark, especially for the Odia community residing in the capital. Established in 1967 by the Sree Neelachala Seva Sangha, the temple serves as a replica of the iconic Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, reflecting its architectural grandeur and spiritual essence .
Architecture & Layout
Constructed entirely from pristine white marble, the temple exudes serenity and elegance. Its two-story structure houses the sanctum of Goddess Mausi Maa on the ground floor, while the first floor enshrines the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Sudarshan Chakra . The temple’s design incorporates intricate carvings and traditional Patta Chitra wall paintings, capturing the rich artistic heritage of Odisha. A prominent feature is the Neela Chakra (Blue Wheel) atop the temple, symbolizing divine protection .
Spiritual Significance & Rituals
The temple meticulously follows rituals akin to those in Puri, including daily aartis, bhog offerings, and seasonal festivals. Devotees can partake in various pujas and receive Mahaprasad, the sacred food offering, prepared in the temple’s kitchen (Paak Shaala) . The temple also features a flower garden (Shri Jagannath Pushp Vaatika), enhancing its tranquil ambiance.
Cultural Hub & Community Engagement
Beyond its religious significance, the Jagannath Mandir serves as a vibrant cultural center. It hosts classical dance and music performances, Odia literature gatherings, and spiritual discourses, fostering a sense of community among devotees . The temple actively engages in social welfare activities, including food distribution and educational programs, reflecting the teachings of compassion and service central to Hindu philosophy .
