There are many different reasons why a pulmonary function test (PFT) may be done. If your healthcare provider needs help diagnosing you with a health problem such as:

• Shortness of breath from a chest injury or recent surgery
• Chronic lung conditions, such as asthma, bronchiectasis, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis
