Niscemi, Sicily just experienced a massive landslide in which the edges of the town suddenly dropped away. The town sits atop a plateau, and an event like this, while hard to believe, is not entirely unexpected. The slide is so big that news coverage doesn't even show all of it. This video talks about the geology behind slides likes this. MS Paint and a sandbox model illustrate the concept. This video was requested by subscribers and discusses my observations based on video of the site, landslide mechanics, and general aspects of the regional geology.
