I will add some notes: Those CNSMDP players who used the A28, used Vandoren blue box #3.5 reeds with this mouthpiece… An incredibly heavy setup!
Years later, Vandoren changed the A28 mouthpiece description from “Designed for playing soft reeds with optimum tone color, especially in extended top range. Recommended for studying classical saxophone.” to “A28: The alto saxophone reference in the V5 series. Rich sound, color, brilliance, and dynamic range. “
Selmer Paris did a similar idea changing the standard tip opening of the S90 series based on popularity. They changed the standard tip opening from the 180 to the 170 based on popularity. Denoted by an *.
