The objective? To use the ultra-secret Special Group (SG) commandos to fly helicopters into the Golden Temple complex, snatch Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale from the Guru Nanak Niwas, and extract him alive-all in the dead of night.

From the latest episode of In Our Defence comes this segment between host Dev Goswami defence expert Sandeep Unnithan (who broke the story of this operation) who take us inside the classified rehearsals at Sarsawa Air Base. They discuss the full-scale mock-ups, the helicopter tactics, and the dramatic last-minute call from PM Indira Gandhi that aborted the mission.
