Die Verbindung zwischen Amrum und dem Kniepsand ist einzigartig in der Region und stellt eine der größten Strand- und Dünengebiete Nordfrieslands dar. Durch diesen Umstand ist Amrum weit weniger durch Sturmfluten gefährdet als alle anderen Nordseeinseln. Das Meer, die weiten Wald- und Heideflächen, sowie die ruhigen, alten Inseldörfer mit ihren alten Strohdachhäusern ohne Schickimicki-Applikationen sind ein ideales Ziel für Naturfreunde und Ruhesuchende.

The 10 square kilometre Kniepsand is a sandbank off the west of the island, like a bulwark, and does not belong geologically or politically to Amrum, but is considered a marine zone of the North Sea. The connection between Amrum and Kniepsand is unique in the region and represents one of the largest beach and dune areas in North Friesland. Because of this, Amrum is far less at risk from storm surges than any other North Sea island. The sea, the wide expanses of forest and heath, as well as the quiet, old island villages with their old thatched-roof houses without fancy-schmancy applications are an ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet.
