In Part 4 of this series, I work within the third signature of the Victorian commonplace book, focusing on the careful integration of keepsakes and personal remnants.
A treasured length of antique ribbon is repurposed as a belly band to hold an old valentine, allowing it to remain visible while still protected. I use the preserved edge of a fragile vintage handkerchief to soften and decorate a page, letting the textile’s wear speak for itself.
This episode also centres on a pressed flower I discovered tucked inside an envelope found in an old book purchased at an estate sale. To house the flower, I transform the original envelope into a pocket, preserving both the object and its context. The handwritten message on the envelope is left intact, becoming part of the story the page quietly tells.
