In this episode of Adventures Into History, I'm back on Oak Mountain in Talbot County, Georgia—joined by historian Dan Akin—as we uncover some of the eeriest ruins we've ever documented. Hidden in the woods behind where the Oak Mountain Springs Hotel once stood, we find the remains of the resort’s old spring-fed swimming pool. It's massive, silent, and partially filled with murky water—now home to frogs, turtles, and a tree growing right from the center.
This was once a bustling health resort dating back to the 1840s. Trains stopped in Cleola to bring visitors here to "take the waters" at the springs and bathe in the healing pool. But now it sits silent, slowly vanishing into the woods.
A thunderstorm rolls in as we explore, adding to the strange mood of this place—a site that once hosted crowds shoulder to shoulder, now forgotten and nearly swallowed by time. This one gave us chills.
This is the kind of work that doesn’t just tell history—it preserves it. Adventures Into History is 100% viewer-supported. If you believe in the power of documenting forgotten places before they’re gone, consider supporting the channel below. Every tip helps keep the preservation going.
