“Then suddenly, (the) rappelling point was broken, so I was fall(ing) together with Shinji, I thought our rappelling rope was a 60 meters (with) double rope so we both hold about 60 meters. In a way, I mean, Shinji was heavily hit by the maybe by some rock or something, you know, and he got big damage (injury).”

ANNOTATION: Shinji Tamura fell at an altitude of 17,650 feet. Rescuers failed to find Tamura by Monday, declaring the death of the Japanese climber.

“I try to find anything of (Shinji) I can find , but basically nothing, I cannot find there.”
STORYLINE:
A Japanese climber died and his fellow mountaineer was injured while trying to scale one of the highest and unscaled peaks in northern Pakistan last week, a mountaineering official and the injured climber said on Tuesday.
The two mountaineers from Japan were taking part in a climbing expedition that was organized by a local tour operator, according to Karrar Haidri, secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
He said the purpose of the expedition was to summit an unclimbed peak in the Andaq Valley in the country’s north. He said while ascending a mountain in Andaq Valley, Shinji Tamura slipped and fell from an altitude of 5,380 meters (17,650 feet).
Semba Takayasu, who was also injured when something hit Tamura. Takayasu said he managed to reach the base camp to seek help for his colleague.
“Suddenly rumpling point was broken so I was fall together with Shinji, I thought our up-ring row was a 60 metres double row so we both hold about 60 metres, in a way Shinji was heavily hit by the rock or something else, and he got big damage (Injury),” Takayasu said.
Haidri said a search team was sent to the area from where the Japanese man had slipped, but rescuers failed to find Tamura.
He said the operation for the missing climber was called off on Monday, declaring him dead.
Takayasu also said his fellow mountaineer Tamura was seriously injured when he fell down.
He told an AP reporter the body of Tamura could not be found after days of searching.
