There are houses you film… and then there are homes that direct you.
297 Carlton is one of those.
This landmark Queen Anne Victorian in Cabbagetown was originally built in the late 1800s and painstakingly restored over decades, then reimagined by architect Mary O’Neil of Hilditch Architect as a fully modern city retreat. Our job was to capture that tension: a historic Toronto façade on the street, and an ultra-contemporary interior that feels like it stepped out of a world-class design magazine.
From the moment you step through the front doors, the camera moves from preserved woodwork and a sweeping original staircase into long, clean sightlines, white oak millwork, and soft Roman-clay walls that soak up the light. Every floor reveals another contrast: old-world bones, new-world minimalism; a classic Cabbagetown address with a quietly outrageous level of finish.
We approached this film less like a “listing video” and more like a character study. Slow, considered moves. Wide frames that let the architecture breathe. Details that normally get missed in a quick showing: the way the stair turns, the way the light lands across the kitchen, the way the upper levels feel more like a private gallery than a traditional home.
If you’re into architecture, restoration, or just unapologetically bold Toronto real estate, this is one you’ll want to watch from start to finish.
