Purpose:
To detect tightness in the tensor fasciae latae (TFL) and iliotibial band (ITB).
How to Perform:
Patient lies on their side, with the lower leg flexed for stability.
The examiner stands behind and:
Passively abducts and extends the upper leg.
Then releases it gently into adduction.
Positive Test:
If the leg remains abducted, refusing to fall toward the table like an overconfident yoga instructor — then you've caught a tight TFL/IT band.
