The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe’s only engine is a 3.3-liter V-6 rated at 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque, and it’s paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency varies based on the trim level with SE and Limited models rated at 18/25 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and 18/24 mpg with all-wheel drive. Opting for the Ultimate package drops those numbers down to 17/23 mpg with front-wheel drive and 17/22 mpg with all-wheel drive.

All variants of the 2017 / 2018 Santa Fe are able to tow 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. There’s 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row in place, 40.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and 80 cubic feet behind the front seats. Inside, a redesigned center stack is joined by a new matte-finish wood-like trim on the Limited model.

In IIHS testing, the 2017 Santa Fe received a Good score on all but the small overlap front crash test, for which it hasn’t been tested yet (Good is the highest possible score). When equipped with the Ultimate package, the Santa Fe gains automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.
