For this installment, Thorp reviews the deep value “contrarian” approach that John Neff used when he managed the Vanguard Windsor Fund. During his 31-year tenure at Windsor (1964 to 1995), the fund returned 13.7% annually versus 10.6% for the S&P 500 index. Specifically, Neff invested in low price-earnings stocks exhibiting steady, sustainable levels of fundamental growth.
