A deadly bus crash in Pennsylvania killed at least one person early Wednesday.
The Greyhound bus was driving westbound on Interstate 80 with 49 passengers and a driver on board. Shortly before 2 am near mile marker 204 westbound, in White Deer Township, Union County, it crashed into the back of a tractor trailer, according to the (Milton, Pennsylvania) Standard Journal.
Sergeant Frederick Dyroff, of the Pennsylvania State Police at Milton, told the Standard Journal he believed the bus was traveling from New York to Cleveland.
One woman was killed and 44 people were taken to five area hospitals, Greyhound spokeswoman Alexandra Pedrini told NBC news, which reported that the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed after the accident. One of the interstate's westbound lanes was opened just before 5 am. Pedrini told NBC she did not know how severe the injuries were.
Photos of the accident scene show the crumpled front of the bus lodged into the back of the tractor trailer.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. The driver had been with Greyhound for more than 12 years.
