Driving Thoughts:
This is the real 'Do-everything SUV', from hitting up Costco to finishing the quarter mile in a time that would embarrass many 'sports' cars, this is the real deal. The G01 Chassis that this is sitting on is refined, stiff, and tuned to perfection, it is incredibly balanced in high speed corners, with a slight hint of oversteer (as a BMW should), allowing you to slightly pull off a power slide in the right conditions. The ride is a bit on the firm side but nothing unbearable, but still a lot more livable than the full on X3 M. The stop-start is something that should be pointed out because of how seamless and unnoticeable it is, starting up and turning off without hesitation, it doesn't crank it kind of just comes on, and it turns off before you're even stopped, but the way it works is perfect, you won't even notice it. The ZF transmission has been tweaked and now provides a much punchier shift that you can definitely feel just like the new M240, and when your foot is on the floor it is lighting fast to drop gears. The X3 M is now only a third of a second faster to 60 making it hard to justify the extra cost, and sacrifice in comfort for the M badge. For my money the X3 M40i is the best balance of performance, practicality, and comfort, it really is a 'Do-everything' vehicle.
