Cannabis policy is changing at the federal level — and hemp is directly in the crosshairs.
In this video, Shayda from RESTART breaks down:
⚫️ Why cannabis rescheduling is happening right now
⚫️ What rescheduling actually means (and what it doesn’t)
⚫️ How hemp, CBD, and hemp-derived THC could be impacted
⚫️ Why the November federal deadline is one of the most important moments in hemp history
For decades, cannabis has been stuck in Schedule I — a classification that no longer matches medical use, state-level legalization, or the existence of a federally legal hemp industry. Now, the federal government is trying to modernize policy without fully ending prohibition, and that shift is creating real risks for hemp.
Hemp was legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill, but unclear federal language and ongoing agency reviews have left the industry vulnerable. As marijuana rescheduling moves forward, overlapping cannabinoids like CBD and delta-9 THC could be pulled into more restrictive frameworks unless hemp is clearly protected.
Between now and November, lawmakers and regulators are actively reviewing cannabis and hemp policy. This window will determine whether hemp remains:
✔️ legally distinct
✔️ accessible to consumers
✔️ responsibly regulated
—or whether large parts of the industry are restricted or wiped out entirely.
At RESTART, we work with the Texas Hemp Coalition and track advocacy through the U.S. Hemp Roundtable to protect consumer access, responsible businesses, and a fair, competitive hemp marketplace.
This video explains what’s happening, why it matters, and what’s at stake for hemp right now.
