He Plays defensive situations using Defensive Hockey Sense, skating and stick skills to handle all situations with poise and confidence. He reads the play and skates efficiently to control the puck carrier and he is aware of the situation and adjusts his positioning to prevent scoring chances and to transition the puck to offense quickly. Knowing when to Pressure or Contain requires Hockey Sense (IQ). Knowing How to Pressure or Contain requires tactical skating and stick skills which are developed with progressive deliberate practice. Nick Lidstrom is one of the best players to learn from. He plays defensive situations responsibly. He moves the puck quickly and he joins the attack and creates scoring opportunities with his intelligence on the point. Any serious coach or player will learn from studying what he does.
