C1973 EV Powertrain Lab
The C1973 EV Powertrain Lab at IIT Bombay—established with the generous support of the Class of 1973 B.Tech. batch—is a center of excellence dedicated to advancing electric mobility in India.
We focus on developing indigenous technologies for light commercial electric vehicles, a pivotal segment in the country’s growing EV ecosystem. Our core R&D areas include:
🔋 Electric motors
🔧 Motor controllers
🔋 Battery management systems (BMS)
🤝 Through the I-APP (Industry-Academia Partnership Program), we bridge the gap between research and real-world application.
🎓 The lab also offers interdisciplinary education and training, empowering the next generation of engineers and researchers for India’s EV future.
We are proud to be home to E-RIDES (Empowering Research in Indigenous Development of EV Sub-systems), a flagship initiative selected under the MAHA-EV Mission by ANRF, placing IIT Bombay at the forefront of India’s journey toward EV self-reliance.
