Lex Rex Ph
Lex Rex means “the Law is King” or "Law, not the king." It means the Law should be supreme, not the whims and caprices of human rulers.
“Lex, Rex” is a book written by a Scottish Presbyterian in 1644. It defended the rule of law, limited government, constitutionalism and opposed “royal absolutism." That book utilized Natural Law, Scriptures (Divine Law), and Scottish Law (Positive Law) and emphasized the importance of a Supreme Covenant upon which a nation should adhere to. It was a seed to the "Social Contract” Theory.
Deut. 17:18-21: "When the king takes the throne..., he is to get a copy of this law.... and he is to read it all the days of his life ... and not consider himself better than his fellows... Then he and his descendants will reign a long time..."
Isaiah 33:22:"...for the Lord is our lawgiver ... he will save us."
John 1:1 provides that the law is already in the beginning. Psalm 119 says, "Your law is truth."
