Children in this group can: Acquire commands of the recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters. Begin to learn sound/symbol relationships, be able to read simple words and high-frequency words. Identify characters, key details, and major events in a story.
GROUP 2: LEVEL D-E-F-G-H-I-J
Children in this group can: Be able to decode 2-syllable words and have command of a significant number of high-frequency words. Read longer sentences and simple dialogues. User illustrations and detail in a story to infer meanings of new words and describe characters and events. Demonstrate understanding of the central message in a story.
GROUP 3: LEVEL K-L-M-N-O
Children in this group can: Decode bigger unfamiliar words. Read longer and more complex sentences. Have the ability to recognize different styles and genres. Infer meanings of new words by using pictures and context. Read to themselves for short periods of time
