Himalayans 1991
Best known as the Adam Duritz–fronted band that wrote the Counting Crows hit song “Round Here,” this innovative San Francisco band penned dozens of songs during the two years it was together at the dawn of the 1990s. The band includes drummer Chris Roldan, guitarist Dan Jewett, bassist Dave Janusko and singer/lyricist Adam Duritz. The Himlayans’ exciting sound is evident in the recently uncovered Harrison Street 4-track Sessions recorded on a Tascam Porta One Ministudio by Janusko. Also re-released in 2022 are remastered Dancing Dog Sessions and the band’s last recording, Russian Hill Sessions, which shows the Himalayans evolving into a five piece with Dave Janusko moving to guitar and Marty “Mr. Jones” Jones joining on bass. Duritz said in a May 2021 Stereogum article: “It was a much wilder band in a lot of ways — loud guitars, very psychedelic … I would’ve been happy in that band forever.”
