MARMOT HIMALAYA
The Himalayan Marmota (*Marmota himalayana*) is a species of squirrel that lives in the high mountain regions of the Himalayas, at altitudes of 3,000 to 5,000 metres above sea level. They are medium-sized, measuring 40–60 cm in length, including a tail that is about 10–15 cm long. Their fur is greyish-brown or yellowish-brown, which helps them blend into the rocky mountain environment. They live in burrows dug into the ground, where they take shelter and live.
The Himalayan Marmota mainly eats grass, shrubs, fruits and occasionally insects. They live in herds and are usually active during the day, and have a habit of communicating with sounds to warn of danger. In winter, this species enters a state of hibernation to conserve energy. The Himalayan Marmota plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance in high mountain regions, especially in controlling vegetation and facilitating the development of other species.
